356 Ferry Road, Waltham (03)389 5989

Open Monday to Friday 8.30am-5.30pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 10am-5pm.

With one of Christchurch’s largest selections of used DVDs and Video Games, Ezy Pawn Ferry Road is a must-visit site for the physical media fanatic.

Their collection consists of 4 large shelves shared between DVD movies and TV Box sets, priced at $2 and $3, respectively.

The offering for Compact Discs is more nuanced but reasonably priced at $1 each. There’s also a small section of Bluray movies for $3 each.

For any fans of Video Games, Ezy Pawn also has a sizable selection of consoles, games and peripherals for the PlayStation 3 and 4, and the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

The prices for games start at $10. There’s also a limited selection of PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X games at reasonable prices.

Across the road from Ezy Pawn, you’ll find St. John Ferry Road.

This shop has a small selection of CDs and DVDs to choose from, and they’re flat priced at $1 each.

Also, a couple of small bins of LPs and 45s are tucked away at the back of the shop. Worth a look if you’re in the area.

90 Beresford Street, New Brighton (03) 421 3911

Open Monday to Saturday, 10 am-3 pm

Closed Sunday

Nestled off the main drag of New Brighton, you’ll find Dogwatch Variety Shop in the Crow’s Nest.

This store has some of the cheapest used physical media I’ve found in Christchurch, with CDs going for 20c to 50c, and DVDs going for 50c to $1.

The selection is adequate and changing all the time, at least in my experience. Be on the lookout for the odd sale, too.

4. The Salvation Army Family Store Op Shop Aranui

34 Portsmouth Street, Aranui (03) 382 0835

Open Monday to Saturday 10 am to 2 pm

On the corner of Portsmouth Street and Aldershot Street, you’ll find The Sallies Aranui Family Store Op Shop.

The range of DVDs is one of the best little selections I’ve seen in my travels.

At $2 each, the price is a little steep (but nothing compared to what I paid when these things were in their heyday!).

Their selection of CDs is a little more limited. The Sallies Aranui sells CDs for $1 each.

5. Redo Renew New Brighton
