7 Christchurch Restaurants Where Kids Eat Free or Cheap [2024]

I love eating out. My budget doesn’t. That’s why I love discovering restaurants with kids eat free offers.

Not only does trying out a new kids eat free Christchurch restaurant save money, but they are also usually kid-friendly with staff and facilities receptive to and accepting of our delightful little moonbeams.

Note – most kids eat free deals require an adult to dine which is fair enough, if you are one adult dining with more than one child, it pays to call the restaurant and check out their conditions.

Here are our top picks for a budget-friendly family meal in Christchurch.

7 Restaurants Where Kids Eat Free Christchurch

Paying for kids food is a gamble at the best of times, often they don’t eat it anyway so it feels like a waste.

Because I started Mum’s Money to help my readers live their best life for less I thought it best that this blog post be as accurately researched as possible so I took a few meals for the team. (It’s a tough gig, sometimes)

This article is evolving, and I’ll keep updating it as I find new spots.

If you are looking for restaurants where kids eat free in Christchurch, I’m your girl.

1. Mexico

The Mexico Christchurch menu - the kids loved this place (and we loved the savings).

Kids eat free from the kid’s menu at Mexico on Sundays from 12 pm until closing time when they dining with a parent.

I actually couldn’t believe the value here, because some of the grownup meals were only $19 or so, and the kids eat free offer was $14 worth of food.

Definitely the best kids eat free offer in Christchurch, avocado taco, jamaica drink and churros for dessert.

The kid’s menu includes 1 kid’s treat (taco, quesadilla etc), 1 dessert and 1 drink.

My kids have both been to Mexico (the country) and we love the food so this was a winner.

Added bonus: get your lunch in early before spending the day ‘in town’ (that’s the Christchurch way of saying ‘city centre’).

The kids will love Turanga, the Christchurch museum, spotting eels in the Avon along Oxford Terrace and the free samples at Fudge Cottage.

2. Denny’s

The kids free meal at Dennys

The Kids Eat Free offer at Denny’s is valid Monday to Wednesday for children under 10.

It’s a quirky set up in that the adults must order off a specific menu – called the Value Menu to receive a free kids meal.

I spent a while poring over the main menu before it was pointed out that I could only order from the Value Menu.

No big deal but when you come in on a Monday night with two tired kids, time is precious so the server could have pre-empted why we were there and been forthcoming with the information.

This offer does not include drinks or desserts.

3. One Good Horse Parklands

OGH Chch Kids Eat Free

This place is one of our favourites – it’s so kid-friendly. Kids eat free every Sunday from 5 pm when dining with a paying adult.

2023 Update: One Good Horse no longer offers a Kids Eat Free deal. They now offer a $13 Kids Meal all day Sunday (including a free soft drink/juice and sundae)

Junior Driver meals come served with a soft drink or milk, meal & a sundae!

One Good Horse has a fantastic indoor playland (a soft play area) so it’s really popular with families and bookings are recommended.

We booked for 5 pm on a Sunday and were seated and served really quickly.

Ask for a table near the play area so you can relax a little.

(side note: I remember coming here as a kid when it was Cobb & Co and had an epic ball pit, it’s kinda cool bringing my kids here now).

4. Bridies Bar and Bistro, Linwood

Don’t let the location put you off – Bridies is easily the best pub grub in Christchurch and we come here often.

The prices are amazing and they offer kids eat free on Sunday with every adult meal ordered (which is anything on the lunch or dinner menu).

The kids meals are valued at around $12 each so it’s a significant saving.

My two had the burgers and the nuggets and both we very happy with full tummies afterwards.
